Kolo Muani's late header salvages a point for Juventus at Cagliari

Randal Kolo Muani's 81st-minute header cancelled out Daniel Maldini's early goal, and Corriere dello Sport reports both head coaches were sent off at the final whistle.

Randal Kolo Muani headed Juventus level at Cagliari in the 81st minute, rescuing a 1-1 draw at the Unipol Domus on 11 October after Daniel Maldini's first-half goal. Both head coaches were then sent off at the final whistle, Corriere dello Sport reports, though it adds that no player was dismissed.

The state of play

Cagliari are fourth in the Pacy table on 13 points from six matches, with four wins, one draw, one defeat and a goal difference of +3. Juventus are sixth on 11 points from the same number of games, with three wins, two draws, one defeat and a goal difference of +4. Football Italia notes that Juventus have won only one of their last four league games, and they were missing Kenan Yildiz, Khephren Thuram, Manuel Locatelli, Jeremie Boga, Jeff Ekhator, Kamil Grabara and Arkadiusz Milik, with goalkeeper Neto suspended, per Football Italia.

The sides last met on 17 January 2026, when Cagliari won 1-0 at home.

How it unfolded

Weston McKennie was shown a yellow card for a bad foul in the 17th minute. Three minutes later Daniel Maldini put Cagliari ahead with a left-footed shot from the centre of the box into the bottom right corner, Paul Mendy providing the assist from a fast break. Juan Rodríguez was booked in first-half stoppage time, and Cagliari led 1-0 at the interval.

The second half brought a run of changes. Juventus made moves at 45, 60, 64 and 84 minutes, bringing on Nick Woltemade for Nico González at 60, Andrea Cambiaso for Zeki Çelik at 64 and Teun Koopmeiners for Douglas Luiz at 84. Cagliari also reshuffled at 60, 69 and 84, with Alieu Fadera, Yukinari Sugawara, M'Bala Nzola and Jacopo Fazzini all entering.

The equaliser came at 81 minutes. Kerim Alajbegovic, who had replaced McKennie at 45, delivered a cross, and Kolo Muani met it from very close range to find the bottom right corner. Football Italia reports it was his first league goal of the season. Alessandro Deiola was booked at 83 minutes.

At the final whistle, Corriere dello Sport reports, Luciano Spalletti and Fabio Pisacane had a face-to-face confrontation, and referee Matteo Marcenaro sent both head coaches off. Spalletti told DAZN, as Corriere dello Sport reports, that nothing had happened, that he had told Pisacane his side play good football and are good at wasting time, and that Pisacane's reply is what led to both dismissals.

The numbers behind it

Juventus had the ball for more than seven minutes in every ten and still scored once; Cagliari's keeper Elia Caprile made nine saves.

Standout performers

Harry Winks completed 43 accurate passes for the hosts. For Juventus, Edon Zhegrova had six shots, and Pape Matar Sarr completed 133 accurate passes, the highest total among the six players on Pacy's top-performer list.

What comes next

Juventus sit five points behind Internazionale and Lazio, and Luciano Spalletti, as Corriere dello Sport reports, said he was judging the performance rather than the result and that his side must improve their finishing. Disciplinary consequences for both coaches now depend on the sporting judge's ruling on the referee's report, per Corriere dello Sport.
